Cristom is one of the Willamette Valley's finest wineries, producing superb Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Pinot Gris and Viognier, using natural methods, native yeast and minimal handling.
Cristom's first and only winemaker Steve Doerner – a seasoned Californian winemaker with 14 years experience at the highly regarded Calera vineyard - uses new world technology with old world traditions. Since 1992 , Doerner, owner Paul Gerrie and vineyard manager Mark Feltz have collaborated, inspiring a skilled workforce in a style of winemaking that is both visionary and old-fashioned. Cristom has built its reputation on antique techniques once rare in Oregon Pinot. Using native yeasts found on grapes at the time of harvest and fermenting with whole clusters have become the distinguished methods on which the three partners have built their business and consistent reputation.
Pale ruby-purple colored, the 2014 Pinot Noir Jessie Vineyard displays a beautiful perfume of violets, lavender and kirsch with suggestions of black raspberries, tilled earth, wild thyme and black pepper. Light to medium-bodied, it fills the mouth with delicate red fruit and earthy layers, framed by firm, grainy tannins, finishing with an herbal lift.
