All Coola Road wines are made from grapes sourced from the family-owned vineyards, situated approximately 25km west of Mount Gambier, South Australia. Research into the unique soils and climate of the region led Coola Road to establishing the first vineyard back in the late 1990’s, with the area under vines expanding to approximately 250 acres over the following five years. The vineyards lie on both the east and west sides of Coola Road which is also home to the grazing property Coola Station.
A super-intense riesling, fermented dry, but only 11% alcohol. It's still quartz-white, the palate with a lemon sherbet blast of power. Whatever else, this wine needs a bare minimum of 5 years, more probably 10. Given its price, finding room to lay down a dozen bottles and embark on a long journey of discovery shouldn't be a problem. It could be the bargain of a lifetime. Drink to: 2023; Price: $20.00; Date Tasted: Oct 2017; Alcohol: 11%; Rating: 91 Points & Special Value Star; James Halliday; Wine Companion
