The Collalto vineyard meaning ‘high hill' in Italian was purchased by the Drake brothers, Scott and Jim, together with their father, the Fred Drake in the company name, in 2005 with the objective of growing premium grapes and making premium wine.  It was planted in 2000 to make wine that best expresses this elevated, cool climate vineyard allows and that typifies the Adelaide Hills region. It is made in very small quantities, from low yields, hand-picking the very best selection of grapes to go into bottle, every single grape from this vineyard.
