Just over 20 years ago, Claymore Wines was humbly established with small volumes of Grenache and Riesling from a single vineyard in Penwortham. Since then, the estate has grown to include additional varietals and 44 hectares across three additional vineyards in Watervale.
A blend of 30% Malbec over 70% Cabernet Sauvigon, 100% Clare Valley. The Malbec contributes a plush juiciness to the Cabernet, balancing those dusty Cab tannins with gentle, soothing velvet richness. This is a densely layered and deceptively complex red that offers rewards in both youth and with time in the bottle.
Beautifully complex with good, clean black bramble fruit, laden with undertones of coffee, chocolate, wood and bay leaf. The palate is refined with fleshy fruit, well-balanced with good acidity and rich, ripe tannins. An overall excellent wine that shows complexity. Trophy, Gold Medal & 95 Points London International Wine & Spirit Competition 2021
This works so well, with rich and ripe dark-berry and plum aromas and flavors. The palate has rich, fleshy fruit and holds such silky, long and fine tannin. So drinkable. Drink or hold. Screw cap. Tasted: October 2021; Rating: 93 Points; Nick Stock for James Suckling
Beautifully ripe and perfumed, the wine shows blackberry, sweet plum, warm spice, thyme and cedar characters on the nose. It's equally attractive on the palate with excellent weight and fruit intensity, making it immediately appealing and highly enjoyable; Now to 2030; Price: $22.00; Rating: 93 Points; Sam Kim; Wine Orbit
