During the first half of the last century, under the guidance of grandfather Pietro, 5 hectares of vines were owned in the prized Bussia area and a smaller amount in the lee of Barolo Municipality. The hill of Pugnane was bought in this period, shortly before the Second World War and has been one of the properties for almost 70 years.
Intense, harmonious, fresh scent with fragrance of violet, rose and undergrowth, with light hints of oak derived from the period of aging in wood and a slight perception of liquorice typical of the wines produced according to tradition; nevertheless, the fruitiness of Nebbiolo is still evident. The palate is dry, robust, and at the same time soft and silky with good tannic balance. Pleasant harmonicity in the mouth confirms the freshness, and elegant flowing on the tongue leaves a prolonged feeling of fullness.
Ripe and perfumed, floral, liquorice root, flowering basil. Ripe tannin, raspberry juiciness, succulence and roundness, then pulls tight on a long finish, brick dust trailing. Delicious. Tasted: May 2020; Alcohol: 14.5%; Price: $105; Closure: Cork; Drink: 2021-2032+; Rated: 94+ Points; Gary Walsh; The Wine Front
