During the first half of the last century, under the guidance of grandfather Pietro, 5 hectares of vines were owned in the prized Bussia area and a smaller amount in the lee of Barolo Municipality. The hill of Pugnane was bought in this period, shortly before the Second World War and has been one of the properties for almost 70 years.
Intense, harmonious, fresh scent with fragrance of violet, rose and undergrowth, with light hints of oak derived from the period of aging in wood and a slight perception of liquorice typical of the wines produced according to tradition; nevertheless, the fruitiness of Nebbiolo is still evident. The palate is dry, robust, and at the same time soft and silky with good tannic balance. Pleasant harmonicity in the mouth confirms the freshness, and elegant flowing on the tongue leaves a prolonged feeling of fullness.
Bussia and Pugnane are, literally, a stones through away from each other at this estate, straddling the border of Castiglione Falletto and Monforte. So this Bussia, is not so much like Bussia from much farther south. Almond paste, red fruits, mint, ripe strawberry and other red fruits, perfume, sweet ripe tannin, a gentle trail of them running all the way to a long and succulent finish. Beautiful wine. The tannin quality here is superb for a 2015. Tasted: May 2020; Alcohol: 14.5%; Price: $105; Closure: Cork; Drink: 2020-2032+; Rated: 95 Points; Gary Walsh; The Wine Front
