The Campbell’s are a fourth generation winemaking family dedicated to continuing a tradition begun in 1870, of producing premium quality wines that refl ect the distinctive characteristics of the Rutherglen region. Drawing on their intimate knowledge of the region the Campbells can ensure that they grow grapes of the highest quality. The result is traditional styles of wines with fi nesse and a subtle use of oak complementing the full fruit full avours.
The pinnacle of the Campbells family of wines, this rare drop is the richest, most complex and complete wine on offer. Delectable aromas of malt and honey melt with subtle hints of tea leaves and raisins; the signature notes of Rutherglen Tokay. Full, mellow honeyed flavours and lingering complex rancio oak characters typical of the style balance seamlessly with fruit sweetness and drying tannin. It’s best enjoyed on it’s own, but if you do want to partner with food, try with coffee and petits fours or rich Almond Butter Balls.
Wine Advocate #155 (Oct 2004) Robert Parker 99 points. The dark amber-colored, unctuous non-vintage Rare Tokay (Muscadelle) Isabella is pedal to the metal motor oil material, offering syrupy, raisiny, pruny, candied toffee and caramel characteristics intertwined with marmalade, fig, soy, and God knows what else. It is a magnificent fortified liqueur!
Wine Advocate #161 (Oct 2005) Robert Parker 97 points. The stunning non-vintage Rare Tokay Isabella is a honeyed, multi-flavored effort displaying raisiny, pruny characteristics intermixed with hints of candied toffee, chocolate, figs, and marmalade. This unctuous, sweet Tokay was made from a solera base of at least 60 years of age. This is a riveting dessert wine to savor slowly at the end of a meal.
