Brokenwood Wines, in the heart of the Hunter Valley, can lay claim to not only an iconic vineyard with the Graveyard Vineyard but to the preservation of a wine fraternity that proudly has as its mission statement, 'to make great wine and have fun.' The Hunter Valley is renowned for its dry table wines of Semillon and Shiraz. Brokenwood's production of these is further supported by premium grapes sources 'from all the right regions for all the right reasons' such as Orange, Beechworth and McLaren Vale.

At 6 years of age on release, the colour is just starting to show some development with yellow tints complimenting the green edges. Lifted lemon curd and floral notes heading to bees wax, brioche and toast. Lively lime juice, Bickfords cordial characters are backed by a superb zesty acidity. The magic of Hunter Valley semillon on display with texture, fruit weight and great length from a wine that sees no oak. The ILR Reserve Semillon is released from the best years and 2014 is a beauty.

Pale straw-green - an extraordinary colour of an extraordinary wine. A fragrant bouquet floats out of the glass and introduces a palate that has the best of all worlds: lemon, lemon curd, beeswax and fruit spice with no hint of the searing acidity Hunter Valley semillon can throw at the unwary. Here it is perfectly (and naturally) balanced. Drink to: 2034; Price: $100.00; Date Tasted: Mar 2020; Alcohol: 11.5%; Rating: 99 Points & Special Value Star; James Halliday Wine Companion
