Renowned and respected as one of the finest producers in Burgundy, Bouchard Père et Fils has truly become an institution, known for the exceptional quality of their wines and the diversity of its many vineyards. Founded in 1731, Bouchard Père et Fils has built up an estate of 130ha and, collectively, is the largest owner of Grand Crus (12ha) and Premier Crus (74ha) across the Côte d’Or Bouchard Père et Fils represents almost one hundred ‘climats’ or uniquely diverse vineyards, including prestigious monopoles such as ‘Beaune Grèves Vigne de l’Enfant Jésus’ and ‘Chevalier-Montrachet La Cabotte’.
A noticeably fresher if more reticent nose speaks of cool aromas of red currant, dark raspberry and beautiful floral influences. The racy, intense and tautly muscular flavors possess more evident minerality that seems to build on the balanced and lingering finish that just goes and goes. If this can add more depth with extended time in bottle my rating my ultimately prove to be unduly conservative. Date: Apr 2020; Drink: 2035+; Issue: 78; Rating 93 Points; Allen Meadows; Burghound
Bouchard's tiny cuvée of 2018 Chambertin Grand Cru is showing very well, wafting from the glass with aromas of cassis, wild berries, plums, rose petals and rich soil tones. Hailing from a small parcel near the tree line that produces some 700 bottles in an average vintage, the wine is full-bodied, layered and elegantly structured, with powdery tannins, lively acids and a perfumed finish.
