Blue Pyrenees were established through a no expense spared approach, by two of the wine world's most revered, accomplished and resourced estates. A superior standard of viticulture and exacting vinification techniques were the priority, they remain at the very core of the Blue Pyrenees raison d'être. An assemblage of exclusively estate grown Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, Malbec and Shiraz, artfully crafted into a seamless style of vigorously perfumed fruit, finely polished tannins and fragrant, flattering oak.
The Blue Pyrenees Chardonnay 2015 has been created from 4 different outstanding Chardonnay fruit parcels selected from mature vineyard blocks. The 2014/2015 growing season had healthy winter rains, a mild dry spring & summer with intermittent rains, then a warm dry Autumn which produced healthy vine canopies, below average crops & plenty of ripe flavour development. Harvesting at 13.5* Beaume sugar level helped capture ripe flavours & the balanced but complex style Chardonnay that is famous in many regions around the world.
Fifty per cent of this wine was matured for nine months in used French oak barriques, so traditional & contemporary techniques were used to craft this wine — notably natural fermentation, barrel fermentation & yeast lees stirring or battonage, which has added both complexity & richness to the vineyard-derived fruit flavours. The result is a medium-bodied, crisp dry white wine with the classic complex flavour profile sought in great Chardonnays.
