The name Ara (pronounced ‘are-ah’) is both the indigenous Maori word for “pathway” and Latin for “altar”. Both definitions are compatible with their philosophy.  Ara's wines are produced from their sustainably managed vineyard in the most south-western corner of Marlborough and deliver an intense and unmistakable purity.

This aromatic Sauvignon Blanc shows classic Wairau Valley blackcurrant on the nose, backed up with citrus blossom and hints of wild herbs. The palate is beautifully fresh, with lively acidity and grapefruit flavours. Tropical fruit flavours give a natural sweetness to the wine, which finishes crisp, refreshing and dry.

A vibrant, classic and inviting bouquet with aromas of passionfruit and sweet grapefruit, crunchy red apple and lemon pith then fresh grassy herbaceousness. Classic flavours of citrus, tropical and stone fruits laced with fresh herbs and carried through the palate with sweet, fresh acidity leads to finish that is classic and delicious. Drinking well now and through 2023. Date: Feb 2021; Rating: 93 Points; Cameron Douglas, Master Sommelier

Delectably expressed, showing green rockmelon, kiwifruit, Gala apple and lemon zest characters on the nose, leading to a fabulously tasty palate that's filled with vibrant fruit flavours backed by refreshing acidity, making it immediately appealing. At its best: now to 2023. Date Tasted: Nov 2020; Price: $19.00; Rating: 93 Points; Sam Kim; Wine Orbit
