Alkoomi Wines is one of WA's largest family owned and operated wine producers. Owners, Sandy and Rod Hallett, together with their children, Laura, Emily and Molly represent the third and fourth generation living and working on the Alkoomi property in Frankland River. It is this family's love and commitment to the place they chose in the Great Southern, as well as Alkoomi's unique combination of gravelly loam soils, warm sunny days and cool nights during the ripening season that produce grapes of intense varietal character and a sense of place.
The estate grown fruit was harvested at optimal ripeness in the early hours of the morning. The juice was pressed to tank and one third was fermented in new and old French oak, the balance in stainless steel. The oak component was left on lees for 3 months before blending and bottling.
Partially barrel fermented and matured for 3 months. This is very classy. Restrained Granny Smith, lychee, guava and lemongrass mingle with cape gooseberry and juniper berry. On the palate the acidity is austere/rigid yet refreshing; the entire package being one of textural complexity and restraint. Bravo.
