The Chavy family resides in the village of Puligny-Montrachet for over 200 years and the name is famous for consistent production of fine, elegant Burgundy. Alain and his brother worked with their father Gerard in the family domaine until his retirement in 1994. Since the establishment of Domaine Alain Chavy, the quality of the wines is ever improving. Alain makes restrained style of Puligny with ripe (but never over ripe) fruit balanced by crisp acidity, which are designed to long aging.
Light to medium straw-yellow hue. Smoky reductive nuances overlying rich melony and peachy fruit, very complex and subtle, and no one note dominates. The smokiness is that of struck flints. It’s restrained, fresh, soft, intense and yet delicate on the tongue - a gorgeous wine. There's also a saline mineral note about the palate, not salty in the usual sense of the word, but gorgeously savoury in a most original way. This is a smashing wine. And astonishingly good value.
