3 drops began with a family farm and a vision- a vision to produce premium wines and extra virgin olive oil whilst maintaining the integrity of the land for generations to come. Southwest of Mount Barker in the heart of the acclaimed Great Southern wine region of Western Australia, vines and olive trees flourish side by side in the cool, pristine climate. The 3drops vineyard comprises 15 fertile hectares planted with varieties of Riesling, Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Shiraz. Italian, Greek and Spanish varieties of olive trees thrive alongside the vines.
Typical Great Southern Riesling aromas of intense lime and grapefruit characters backed by some floral notes. The bouquet is lifted, clean and vibrant. The front entry to the palate has generosity and fruit drive of lime juice and pink grapefruit characters. The vibrant fruit fullness flows through to a tight, elegant, and focussed mid palate which shows amazing natural balance between that fruitfulness and the fine natural acidity. This wine has a tightly wound palate structure which provides great length and persistence and will develop over many years.
Typical Great Southern riesling; vibrantly fresh, citrus and crisply delineated acidity. There's a purity about the wine that invites you to return time and again. This is why some of us get so excited about the future of riesling in Australia. The Great Southern region of Western Australia is turning out some of the most aromatic and beautifully defined rieslings in the country. 3 Drops delivers yet another convincing argument that this is the case, this time from the 2020 vintage. Pale straw. An array of florals – intense apple blossom, lifted spring flowers – is backed by super fresh lemon-grapefruit and spice aromas. Immediately, resolutely riesling on the palate with citrus, lime leaf, grapefruit pith dryness and a striking lime cordial refrain throughout. Acidity is filigree fine, bringing with it a sense of tension. Rating: 95 Points; Jeni Port
