After nearly three decades of growing grapes for some of Australia’s best known wine brands, the Zilzie winery was built in 1999 with the first vintage released under the Zilzie name in 2000. The increasingly popular and distinctive Selection 23 range was introduced in 2004.

95 Points, Gold Medal, Royal Melbourne - $9.99!
Do not adjust your sets. This is indeed a 2017 vintage Shiraz. Having seen the massive gong it received - more of that later - I was so keen to try a wine that was literally residing in a grape just a short few months ago. I have to say I loved it. Gorgeous ripe purity of fruit, forget about the influence of oak here. Medium bodied, bright, luscious red berries, opulent even and a lunch Shiraz if there ever was one. Zilzie Selection 23 has always had a value stamp on it but is something else!

It seems I wasn't the only one to love it. A rating of 95 Points and a Gold Medal in the Jimmy Watson Class at Royal Melbourne shows the judges loved it too.

Given the magnitude of this class at Royal Melbourne, it would be easy to rattle off a few expensive wines this beat home for Gold but in reality, there are nearly 2000 reds - including 735 Shiraz - in the JWT classes. Only 24 of them, including this, managed a Gold Medal. This modest $9.99 Shiraz went within 1 point of claiming Top Gold. The Triple Trophy winning Shiraz scored only 1 point more.

I'm sure you get the picture of the value on offer here. Crowd pleasing, easily gluggable, popular style Shiraz for a tick under a tenner (in dozen lots).
