Yalumba was founded in 1849 by Samuel Smith, British migrant and English brewer, who had brought his family to Angaston seeking a new life. After purchasing a 30-acre parcel of land just beyond the southern-eastern boundary of Angaston, Smith and his son began planting the first vines by moonlight. Samuel named his patch "Yalumba" – aboriginal for "all the land around". Five generations and 160 years later Yalumba, Australia's oldest family owned winery, has grown in sizeand stature, embodying all that has made the Australian wine success story the envy of winemakers the world over.

The Yalumba Y Series of varietal wines express the lively personality and colourful 160-plus-year history of the Hill-Smith family of Yalumba, Australia's oldest family owned winery. These are fresh and flavoursome fruit-driven wine styles of quality and consistency, highlighting the true regional character of South Australia's most renowned viticultural areas and confirming Yalumba's reputation as Australia's finest independent winemaker.

The grapes for the Yalumba Y Series Sangiovese Rosé come from four distinct vineyard sites in the Barossa Valley, Wrattonbully and Adelaide Hills. Tony Brooks’ vineyard near Gomersal, on rich, red brown earth over limestone, gives the wine depth and length, while Kevin Burgemeister’s Penrice site on brown, sandy loam gives the wine perfume and freshness. The third vineyard site at Wrattonbully is classic Terra Rossa over a limestone base. This terrior gives the wine a powerful depth of flavour coupled with mineral texture. Finally the vineyard in the cool climate of Adelaide Hills offers high toned perfume and
herbal characters.

The Yalumba Y Series Sangiovese Rosé resembles fresh pomegranate juice in colour. Aromas of fresh fruits, strawberries, pomegranate and rhubarb are complemented by alluring hints of rose petals, cinnamon and lavender.  The palate is vibrant with enticing flavours of pomegranate, red apple and strawberry that lead to a refreshing savoury finish. Best enjoyed anytime of the time of the day with modern Australian cuisine.
