Established in 1973 by David and Heather Watson, Woodlands is one of Margaret River's first five wineries. Woodlands produces wine from its two vineyards, both located in the Wilyabrup Valley of Margaret River. The original Woodlands Vineyard is located on Caves Road, while the Woodlands Brook Vineyard is located two kilometres to the northeast. Woodlands' Vineyards are dry grown and maintained by hand using organic and traditional methods. Wines produced include Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Merlot blends, and Chardonnay. All Woodlands wines are made on site by the Watson family. 

Woodlands ‘Margaret’ is sourced entirely from the Woodlands Vineyard. The Cabernet Sauvignon portion comes from a slope on the south of Woodlands that wraps around a 90-degree radius from east to north. The fruit on this slope receives a great deal of direct sunlight from morning to mid-afternoon, leading to rich full-bodied wines. The Merlot and Malbec plots that make up the remainder of ‘Margaret’ come from our west-facing slope of deep loam soil. This slope receives the most direct afternoon sunlight at Woodlands, and produces more exotic fruit characters in the finished wine.

Margaret is a blend of ­­78% Cabernet Sauvignon, 11% Merlot and 11% Malbec. Bright crimson in colour, the nose is dominated by its Cabernet Sauvignon component- blackcurrant, black olive, mulberry, and cassis combining with fine-grained French oak notes. The palate is fine, dense and concentrated– ripe red and dark berry fruits, succulent middle palate, and plush tannin. Characteristic of the power and charm of the 2013 vintage, this wine reminds us most of the 2003.
