Wirra Wirra vineyards established itself as one of Australia’s most recognisable and leading wineries under the watchful eye of the late Greg Trott. Trott, who sadly passed away in 2005, and his cousin Roger rebuilt the winery in 1969 from the remnants of two walls and some slate fermenting tanks. Today Wirra Wirra Vineyards has developed a reputation for intense, beautifully crafted red wines and expressive fine whites. James Halliday has described Wirra Wirra as "...the best small to medium sized winery in McLaren Vale and right up there on a national scale".
The late Greg Trott’s best chance of fulfilling his dream of wearing the famous baggy green cap of the Australian Cricket team was carrying the drinks as 12th Man. This Adelaide Hills Chardonnay strikes a lovely balance between the more austere modern Oz style and the fuller-bodied classics of yesteryear, with fresh stone fruit characters, bright acid and a wonderful creamy texture.
Vibrant gold with a green tinge colour. A lifted aroma of mandarin, lemon rind and white peach fruits are complexed by nuances of cedar, cashews and brioche. The palate is bright with clean citrus and stone fruits. It has great focus with a pristine line of fruit and acid which are balanced by the fine cedary tannins and creamy texture.
