The West Cape Howe winery is situated on the undulating, historical and picturesque property of Langton on Muir Highway, Mount Barker, Western Australia. The property was purchased from Goundrey in 2009. This state-of-the-art winery is a world class facility, importantly located in Mount Barker, the premier fruit source location for West Cape Howe.
It's the exceptionally fine fruit quality of the Great Southern region and the combined skill and artistry of viticulture and winemaking that provides the West Cape Howe wine drinker with a truly memorable experience. West Cape Howe has acquired some of the oldest vineyard resources in Western Australia, giving unequalled access to the best and most consistent quality fruit that the cool Great Southern wine region has to offer.
The fruit was harvested at optimum ripeness and flavour profile from premium vineyards surrounding Mount Barker. The 10 day ferment included daily pumpovers for ideal tannin and colour extraction before the ferment was pressed. The separate portions were aged for 18 months in a selection of new and older French barriques. The final blend was decided using those premium parcels that typify a Great Southern Cabernet Sauvignon. A further 12 months ageing in bottle before release allowed this wine to be in perfect balance.
From several vineyards, each portion fermented and matured (18 months) separately in new and used French barriques. Deep, bright crimson-purple; a great example of the vitality and varietal clarity that West Cape Howe brings to its wines, terroir riding high. Its cassis fruit is mouthwatering, not a phrase you would normally use with cabernet, but true here.
