Deep, healthy crimson-purple; the Wendouree blends bring wonderful complexity to the table, but this wine in particular brings purity, its flood of cassis fruit on the bouquet and palate awesomely mouthwatering and drawn out, not trimmed back by the brambly, savoury tannins. If there is better tannin structure in an Australian cabernet, I am yet to see it. Drink by: 2062; Date Tasted: March 2014; Alcohol: 13.3%; Rating: 98 Points; James Halliday Wine Companion

Blackcurrant, red jubes, lavender and eucalyptus perfume, aniseed and cedar. Medium bodied, stern and a little stalky, with a firm almost gummy sweep of tannin, bright red and black fruit, and very long straight finish that’s littered with leaf. Super structure and shape. Serious wine. It’s certainly Wendouree in full regalia, and whether that’s too much or just right is a matter of taste. Will cellar grandly, of course. Tasted: July 2014; Alcohol: 13.2%; Closure: Screwcap; Drink: 2020-2040+; Rating: 95+ Points; Gary Walsh; The Wine Front
