Named after Charles and Emmanuel’s father Roger. Predominantly Chardonnay with a touch of Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier, this cuvée is fully vinified in small oak casks and waits patiently deep in the cellars ‘on tirage’ for four years. Traditional, thoughtful, opulent, complex, age worthy. 2g/L dosage (Ultra Brut or Sauvage)

They are an NM (négociant manipulant) house but most of the vineyards actually belong to family members of the Fourny clan, so pretty much RM, just not by the normal rules. These guys do very little between vineyard and final wine, fermenting the juice in oak barrels is pretty much the only impact on the character on the wine. Predominately chardonnay here. Redolent of almonds, quince, white peach and slate with a zippy lift of lemon blossom and cashews. The palate is intense, concentrated but tightly wrought with a blistering energy that drives the fruit in a fine, tight focus to the back palate. More nuttiness, then excitement from young orchard fruits and quartzy minerality, and the wine finishes way way back in the palate. Lots of personality and crunchy texture here, this is a Champagne of opulence and interest. Drinks more like table wine for complexity. Great. Passionate about their land which has been cultivated by their ancestors since 1856, the Fourny family produce Champagnes from grapes grown in the premier crus of Vertus, a village located in the south of the prestigious Cote des Blancs.

Champagne Veuve Fourny & Fils has been an active family domain since 1856. The estate is located in the prestigious Côte des Blancs, in the premier cru village of Vertus. Brothers Charles-Henry and Emmanuel Fourny sustainably farm over nine hectares of vineyards and have been carrying on the family wine growing tradition since 1993.

Veuve Fourny produces classic grower Champagne, raising pedigreed fruit, adhering to high standards, and hand-crafting wines that showcase the chalky terroir of Vertus. All of the Fourny vineyards are farmed according to the same meticulous practices and principles, and each parcel is vinified separately. Over 30 parcels!

Skilful craftsmanship on display in the subtle nuances of vanilla and ginger from small barrel vinification, while maintaining a honed focus on restrained lemon and apple fruit. 95 Points; Tyson Stelzer, Australia's Wine Business Magazine, November 2011

Gold hued with lingering fine bead, the oak influence has had an enriching, harmonising effect with warmspice such as cinnamon, ginger, aged honeyed nuances and quite creamy on the palate. While super dry with a long finish, this is an opulent style. Jane Faulkner, The Age, Sunday Morning Herald
