Vasse Felix were briefed in the seventies by Margaret River’s founding vigneron Dr Tom Cullity, to make the best possible wine. Heytesbury is a flagship regional Cabernet, the fruits of over thirty years of viticulture at Vasse Felix. Balance, elegance, complexity and restrained power are the hallmarks of Heytesbury, the direct result of an uncompromising approach to quality. Heytesbury embodies the Vasse Felix commitment to excellence, and as such is named after the Holmes à Court family company, to which Vasse Felix is the crowning jewel.
A classic Margaret River blend of Semillon and Sauvignon Blanc. It has citrus and passionfruit aromas and a zesty, textured palate of pure and pristine fruit. It is vibrant, fresh and crisp. On the nose its pure, bright and fragrant lemon and lime confectionery with hints of fresh coriander and a touch of fresh green chilli aroma. The palate is very fine, refreshing palate with soft juicy fruit body and a crisp, polished acidity. Flavours of pineapple, lime, lemon jelly and coriander with fresh, vibrant fruit-filled finish.
One of these days Vasse Felix may put a foot wrong, but the odds against it are prohibitive. The harmony and seamless fusion of snow pea, Meyer lemon, passionfruit and builtin acidity are all precisely proportioned. Drink now or in 5 years: your choice. Semillon leads (62%), with 35% sauvignon blanc and 3% chardonnay. Rating: 93 Points; James Halliday
