The winemaking philosophy at Trentham Estate has always been to produce high-quality varietal wines at an affordable price, with an emphasis on full fruit flavour and palatability. Grapes are picked and crushed at optimum ripeness to produce the perfect flavour.

Trentham produces five different wine ranges, each showcasing the very best of the various styles crafted by winemakers Anthony Murphy, Shane Kerr and, most recently, Mark Holm.

2013 was dryer and slightly warmer than average in Northern Tasmania, these conditions produced fruit of excellent quality with great flavour and colour. Harvested on 14th April 2013 at 13.2 Baume, the grapes were de-stemmed and crushed before cold soaking for 3 days. Fermentation followed in open vats for 7 days before pressing into French oak for maturation. After 14 months of maturation the wine was blended and bottled.

Fruit is sourced from an exceptional vineyard located in the Tamar Valley of Northern Tasmania. The shallow stony soils and cool climate combination result in consistently high quality fruit with great primary fruit flavours, structure and complexity. Light bright red with cherry, spice and harmonious French oak. Varietal flavours of red fruits and strawberry cream show an ideal balance with softness and poise. A silky, quality Pinot Noir with a smooth texture and supple fine tannins.

That Tony Murphy magic is on full display here; first, finding the grapes; second, handling them with such skill; and third, managing to sell the wine at this price. The fragrant bouquet is flooded with red fruits, the supple and satisfying palate finishing with a trumpet of darker fruit, integrated French oak and perfectly weighted spicy acidity.
