Seppelt St.Peters Shiraz 2013
Small batch open-fermented, hand-plunged matured for 14 months in small and large format French oak. Deep crimson; a wine bred in the purple; there is an operatic chorus of purple and black fruits with highlights of spice, gentle, yet persistent tannins and oak the final movement. Drink by: 2048; Price: $80.00; Alcohol: 13.5%; Rating: 97 Points; James Halliday

Yarra Yering Underhill Shiraz 2012
The promise of the excellent crimson-purple colour is duly delivered; the bouquet has a fragrant blend of red fruits, spice and French oak, the medium-bodied but very long and pure palate with the full spectrum of flavours, but it is the finesse and elegance that make it special. Drink By: 2032; Price: $92.00; Date Tasted: 11 Mar 2014; Alcohol: 13%; Rating: 97 Points; James Halliday Wine Companion

Clonakilla O’Riada Shiraz 2014
This has class stamped all over it from the moment you first taste it, sweeping away any necessity to describe the colour or bouquet; it creates a sparkling river of dark fruits that run from the tip of the tongue through to the elegant, but oh so complex, finish and aftertaste. Exhilarating. Drink by: 2045; Price: $45.00; Date Tasted: March 2015; Alcohol: 13.5%; Rating: 97 Points & Special Value Star; James Halliday Wine Companion

Head Wines The Brunette Shiraz 2014
From a vineyard at the top of Moppa Hill (380m), the soils lean red clays, picked 7 Mar (a week earlier than average), 10% retention of stems, 2 weeks wild yeast fermentation, matured for 12 months in French barriques (one-third new). Deep colour; marries deep, rich, velvety black fruits with perfect balance, so much so that the full-bodied nature of the wine passes you by. The tannins, in particular, are as smooth as silk, as are the precisely engineered wheels that glide the palate through and along its prodigious length. Rating: 97 Points; Price: $55.00; Date Tasted: June 2016; Alcohol: 14.3%; James Halliday Wine Companion
