Since the release of the 2016 JHWC  we have periodically offered a super premium 97 Point StarDozen. So far we have featured Shiraz, Pinot Noir, Riesling and Chardonnay and now it is time to offer what Halliday categorises in his book as 'Cabernet and Family'! Either Halliday is a harder marker on Cabernets and blends of or there seem to be much fewer rating 97 Points compared to other mainstream varieties.  The StarDozen is a great way to sample more examples of outstanding wines without committing to full case purchases of each. What we have here is the StarDozen: James Halliday 97 Point Cabernets & Family featuring 3 bottles each of Cabernets and blends which not only scored 97 Points with James Halliday but also show the diversity of this variety with a Barossa Valley, Yarra Valley and McLaren Vale. All 97 Points and all significantly below retail price. This is a rare and extremely limited opportunity.

De Bortoli Melba Reserve Yarra Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2013
This is vice regal stuff, bred in the purple. The bouquet is extremely expressive of the variety at its best, but it?s the palate that works the magic, simultaneously elegant and intense, dripping with cassis, the tannins honed so fine they gently take your hand and lead you off into the night. Rating: 97 Points; Drink by: 2038; Price: $45.00; Date Tasted: Feb 2016; Alcohol: 13.5%; James Halliday Wine Companion

Yarra Yering Dry Red No1 2013
A 70/15/10/5% blend of cabernet sauvignon, merlot, malbec and petit verdot planted in '69, matured for 20 months in 100% new French barriques. Deep crimson-purple, it proclaims its regal birth with the first whiff of the bouquet, the first sip of the palate. Always great, this medium to full-bodied wine pushes past previous vintages with the sheer perfection of its flavour profile, mouthfeel, and, above all else, its balance. Drink By: 2053; Price: $92.00; Alcohol: 13.5%; Rating: 97 Points; James Halliday Wine Companion

Henschke Keyneton Euphonium 2012
A magic combination of a cascade of black and red fruit flavours with supreme elegance and balance, the complex blend of Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc at once fused yet synergistic. The best Euphonium yet. Screwcap. Drink to: 2035; Price: $50.00; Alcohol: 14% Rating: 97 Points; James Halliday Wine Companion
