Based in Nuits-St-Georges, the famous Domaine Faiveley was founded in 1825 and in more recent times, the domaine has greatly expanded its vineyards across the entire Cote d'Or. The grapes are entirely destemmed and fermented in a mix of new wooden vats for the top end wines and stainless steel for the lesser cuvées. Once notorious for being fairly austere, there has been less emphasis on extraction over the last ten years and the wines show increased freshness, purity of fruit and more judicious use of oak. A contender for one of the most improved domaines in Burgundy over the last decade.

Faiveley Bourgogne Rouge 2015
Gee, they’ve really done well this vintage. Smells and tastes like proper Burgundy, and has a good finish to boot. Red fruits, a subtle earth and smokiness, spice and peel. Light to medium bodied, discreet but good volume of fruit flavour, light scratchy tannin, a brisk and vibrant feel, and a clean finish laced with a little Campari-like bitterness. Banging Bourgogne Rouge! Alcohol: 12.5%; Price: $38; Closure: Cork; Drink: 2017-2025; Rated: 91 Points; Gary Walsh; The Wine Front

Sourced from vineyards spread throughout the terroirs of the Côte de Nuits, Côte de Beaune and the Côte Chalonnaise. "Bright and fruity with strawberry and orange-peel aromas that follow through to a medium body, bright acidity and a clean finish. Crisp and clean. Excellent Bourgogne red." Rating: 91 Points; JamesSuckling .com

Faiveley Mercurey Clos du Roy 1er Cru 2015
Discreet wood sets off slightly riper yet still fresh aromas of plum, earth, spice and black cherry that offer even better complexity. Here too the mouth feel of the medium-bodied flavors is sleek and vibrant while possessing excellent complexity, balance and persistence. This is a very good value play and recommended. Rating: 90-92 Points; Allen Meadows; Burghound

On the nose, scents of strawberries mix pleasantly with spicy and woody aromas, which come from the wine being matured traditionally in oak. This wine is very nicely balanced on the palate. Its rich juicy palate blends perfectly with its tannins, giving a wine full of body.

Faiveley Mercurey La Framboisiere 2015
Raspberries, black tea and a little smoke, almost a rosy perfume, and a some exotic spice. Medium bodied at best, juicy raspberry flavour with a ferrous and mineral thing going on, cool acidity, light emery tannin, and a spicy finish of good length, with an amaro twist in the tail. Lovely. Plenty of Burgundy here for your money. Alcohol: 13%; Price: $58; Closure : Cork; Drink: 2018-2027; Rated: 92 Points; Gary Walsh; The Wine Front

Mid cherry red. Deliciously fragrant with red fruit. It may be auto-suggestion but there's raspberry fruit in here. A touch smoky but fine and refined with freshness to the end. Juicy, lively. Julia Harding, JancisRobinson .com

Faiveley Mercurey Clos des Myglands 1er Cru 2015
Wonderful aromas of plums, orange peel and stones. Full-bodied, round and soft with a juicy finish. A deep and rich pinot. Fantastic wine. Made from six hectares. Best ever? Drink now. Rating: 93 Points; JamesSuckling .com

Plum, raspberry, earth, peel and spice – almost exotic? Medium bodied, ripe but fresh fruit, fleshy suede textured tannin, a juiciness and bright tang to the acidity, and a vibrant finish that punches on and closes spicy and aromatic. So much energy and flavour. They’ve delivered a knockout in 2015. Alcohol: 13.5%; Price: $70; Closure: Cork; Drink: 2018-2030; Rated: 93 Points; Gary Walsh; The Wine Front
