Coonawarra is renowned as one of Australia's finest wine regions and is particularly known for producing world class red wines especially Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz. Think Coonawarra, and thoughts of sumptuous reds spring to mind – from the rich rust-coloured Terra Rossa soil for which it’s internationally recognized, to the prized red wines that have made it famous. All four wines have received a whopping 96 Points or more from Australia's leading wine critics which serves to highlight the tremendous quality.

Stonehaven Reserve Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon 2021
Sourced from adjacent rows of 40-year-old vines hand-pruned to control the yield to 5t/ha. Cold maceration and pressed direct to oak for 18 months in French hogsheads. This is a seriously good cabernet from an excellent vintage. Its length is exceptional, as is its structure and slinky tannins, part fruit, part oak. Drink to: 2045; Price: $60.00; Date Published: August 2023; Alcohol: 14.5%; Rating: 97 Points; James Halliday; The Weekend Australian

Reschke Bos Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon 2015
Powerful and deeply flavoured, the wine shows dark fruit richness, bitter chocolate, bouquet garni and potpourri aromas on the nose, followed by a wonderfully weighty palate displaying excellent density and firm grip. Splendidly generous and hugely appealing. At its best: now to 2030; Price: $75.00; Rating: 96 Points; Wine Orbit

Wynns Coonawarra Black Label Cabernet Sauvignon 2019
Oh, it does the heart good to see this wine singing such a beautiful tune these days. It remains one of my favourite Aussie cabernets for so many reasons – history and quality are two, but then there is how it almost mirrors my own journey in wine from the time I first tasted one of these. In fact I have been fortunate to have participated in vertical tastings of every wine back to that seminal 1954, and they remain among my most cherished memories in Australian wine. This has a beautiful seductive cherry and red berry aroma augmenting the cassis of Coonawarra cabernet. The palate delivers high energy and brightness as it drives to an effortlessly long finish. Highly polished and elegant with a suave poise. These wines cellar for decades if you wish. Ray Jordan; 97 points, Wine Pilot

Schoolhouse Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon 2020
Enticing aromas of cassis, cedar, cigar and olive lead to a powerfully structured palate that's concentrated and persistent. Dense yet vibrant with superb fruit purity and stylish complexity, making it immensely attractive. Tasted: April 2022; At its best: 2024 to 2037; Price: $80.00; Rating: 96 Points; Wine Orbit
