As you may imagine, of all the varieties, Cabernet scoring 97 Points with the major critics (James Halliday, Ray Jordan, Huon Hooke, Jeremy Oliver, Wine Front) are the most sought after. Despite over thousands of reviews there are still relatively few that climb the mountain that is 97 Points. What we have here is the StarDozen: 97 Point Cabernet Collection featuring 4 bottles each from 4 renowned producers. This is a rare and extremely limited opportunity.

The StarDozen consists of the following:

3 bottles        Hardys HRB Cabernet Sauvignon 2015
3 bottles        Wynns Coonawarra Black Label Cabernet Sauvignon 2013
3 bottles        Voyager Estate Cabernet Merlot 2010
3 bottles        Vasse Felix Cabernet Sauvignon 2015

Hardys HRB Cabernet Sauvignon 2015
in D670. Hardys has been making regional blends since 1865, so this simply follows Thomas Hardy's prescription. He, however, couldn't go to Coonawarra or the Frankland River, these two regions blended with McLaren Vale 150 years after the edict. The colour is deep but vibrant purple-crimson, and the full-bodied palate has the black-fruited power of a weightlifter and the balance of a high wire walker. It is one of those wines with a 100-year life stamped on it. Drink by: 2055; Price: $40.00; Date Tasted: Jan 2017; Alcohol: 14%; Rating: 97 Points & Special Value Star; James Halliday; James Halliday Wine Companion

Wynns Coonawarra Black Label Cabernet Sauvignon 2013
Deep, young purple/red colour, very fresh looking - and smelling. Fruit-driven blackberry, raspberry and blackcurrant nuances, with negligible herbal high-notes. The wine is intense and powerful yet also very elegant - moreso than the 2012 - and the fruit does all the talking. Strong but super-fine tannins. The wine has perfect balance in all respects: oak, tannin, acid and extract as well as flavour. A great wine. Drink 2017 to 2045; Rating: 97 Points; Huon Hooke; Real Review

Voyager Estate Cabernet Merlot 2010
The extra time in bottle has helped this wine immeasurably. It's really come into its own and is drinking superbly. Classic cabernet with power and structure yet delivered with such poise and refined elegance. The fine grained tannins are a feature contributing to the palate performance. Love the fragrance and perfume which sets this up wonderfully. Rating: 97 Points; Ray Jordan; West Australian

Vasse Felix Cabernet Sauvignon 2015
Captures the elegance of this great vintage. Doesn't have the density and opulence of the 2014 but there is classic angular structure. Typical graphite, soy and savoury notes with a hint of tobacco leaf with black olive nuance. Classy oak integration and fine-grained tannins. One of the very finest that marks the next statement of Vasse Felix cabernet. Ridiculously cheap for a wine of this quality. Best drinking: Now to 2030; Rating  97 Points; Ray Jordan
