As you may imagine, of all the varieties, Cabernet scoring 97 Points with the major critics (James Halliday, Huon Hooke, Jeremy Oliver, Wine Front) are the most sought after. Despite over thousands of reviews there are still relatively few that climb the mountain that is 97 Points. What we have here is the StarDozen: 97 Point Cabernet Collection featuring 3 bottles each from 4 renowned producers, with a WA feel. This is a rare and extremely limited opportunity.

The StarDozen consists of the following:

3 bottles        Hardys HRB Cabernet Sauvignon 2015
3 bottles        Ringbolt 21 Barriques Cabernet Sauvignon 2012
3 bottles        Fraser Gallop Parterre Cabernet Sauvignon 2013
3 bottles        Leeuwin Estate Art Series Cabernet Sauvignon 2013

Hardys HRB Cabernet Sauvignon 2015
in D670. Hardys has been making regional blends since 1865, so this simply follows Thomas Hardy's prescription. He, however, couldn't go to Coonawarra or the Frankland River, these two regions blended with McLaren Vale 150 years after the edict. The colour is deep but vibrant purple-crimson, and the full-bodied palate has the black-fruited power of a weightlifter and the balance of a high wire walker. It is one of those wines with a 100-year life stamped on it. Drink by: 2055; Price: $40.00; Date Tasted: Jan 2017; Alcohol: 14%; Rating: 97 Points & Special Value Star; James Halliday; James Halliday Wine Companion

Ringbolt 21 Barriques Cabernet Sauvignon 2012
Richer and riper than the '11. As a result it's stunning in a different way. Eucalypt plays a leading role here but so too does beautifully ripened blackcurrant, plum and bay leaf flavours. Cedary-spicy oak has melted straight down into the fruit, and tannin is fine but ever-so-firm. We have something special here. Drink by: 2040; Price: $38.00; Date Tasted: Jan 2016; Alcohol: 14.5%; Rating: 97 Points & Special Value Star; James Halliday Wine Companion

Fraser Gallop Parterre Cabernet Sauvignon 2013
Still bright crimson-purple; a totally delicious and stylish Bordeaux blend; the bouquet is fragrant, the medium to full-bodied palate swoops high and low with cassis, spice, bay leaf, cedary oak and beautifully detailed tannins - and only 13.5% alcohol. Drink by: 2038; Price: $45.00; Date Tasted: Mar 2016; Alcohol: 13.5%; Rating: 97 Points & Special Value Star; James Halliday Wine Companion 2017

Leeuwin Estate Art Series Cabernet Sauvignon 2013
Deep red/purple: an outstanding colour in depth and hue. The bouquet is clean, fresh and alive, with bright black fruit and violet aromas, touches of cedar and toasty oak, the palate very deep and concentrated, with lush fruit and abundant tannins, which counter-balance the fruit and sweetness. A powerful yet elegant cabernet with a very long and distinguished future ahead of it. An outstanding, profound wine. Drink: 2019 to 2041; Price: $68.00; Alcohol: 13.5%; Rating: 97 Points; Huon Hooke; The Real Review
