Strong crimson-purple; the first whiff of the bouquet says pay attention, forget the zany label, and take me seriously; and indeed, there is a wealth of black fruits seasoned with spice, licorice and a touch of pepper, the tannins ripe and positive, oak restrained. Yes. We have ourselves a wine here. At a most reasonable price. Track it down. This is excellent buying. One sip and strike, we’re on. Mid-weight cherry-plum, liquorice and pepper flavours with dried spice and earth. Some spice from fruit, some spice from oak. Lengthy finish. Supple but not syrupy. Acidity is just right. Drinks well now and will cellar. I plough through a lot of wines each year; it’s wines like this that I’m looking for, all aspects considered.
