Singlefile are a boutique, family run winery dedicated to making single vineyard wines from select sites in the Great Southern of Western Australia. Their name pays homage to the geese who waddle in single file around the estate and the Latin on our crest translates to the pursuit of excellence – a principle they try and live by every day.
Singlefile Wines are unique expressions of Western Australia’s Great Southern. The approach is to track down the best fruit across the sub-regions of this corner of the earth, then apply minimal intervention to craft singular examples of the Singlefile style, stamped with the crest. Singlefile Wines are made in a thoughtful and refined style, with elegance and fruit-driven complexity and an enticing length of flavour.
The Family Reserve Chardonnay from Singlefile’s Denmark Vineyard is as intense as it is restrained. The powerful grapefruit and white peach aromas invite you in at first inhalation. Then take a sip and be subdued by the concentration of citrus and stone fruit, followed by a toasty almond complexity that begs to be savoured once again. Its creamy texture (thanks to the partial malolactic fermentation) runs along a linear structure that seems to last forever. Team it with poultry and seafood dishes, or allow it to age gracefully in the bottle for up to 10 years.
Selected each year on a row-by-row basis, hand-picked, chilled overnight, whole bunch-pressed, fermented in French barriques (40% new), matured for 8.5 months, a small portion (less than 10%) undergoing mlf. A very, very different wine to its Great Southern sibling, with intense grapefruit leading white peach through the bouquet and into a complex palate. One of those all-too-few wines that manage to combine elegance with intensity and complexity, notes of cashew and cream swirling around in the background.
