Sidewood Mappinga Shiraz 2013
The Sidewood Vineyard is situated at the 300 acre Ashwood Estate in the cool-climate of the Adelaide Hills wine region, 380m above sea level. Climate, soil, careful pruning techniques and hand-picking play a vital role to ensure that only the best fruit is produced for Sidewood Wines. With the rows of vineyards planted facing East - West, this ensures that combined with intensive canopy management the intensity of the fruit flavour profile will be enhanced.
100% Adelaide Hills, 4 clones separately picked and wild-fermented, 20% whole bunch carbonic maceration, matured for 22 months in new and used French oak. Deep, vivid crimson-purple; the bouquet is attractive, but it is the length and balance of the intense, medium-bodied palate that sends the taste buds into overdrive with spice, pepper and sage underlying the majestic array of black cherry, blood plum and blackberry fruits; the tannins and oak balance is immaculate. Drink By: 2043; Rating: 97 Points; James Halliday
A delicious, ambitious, cooler-climate Shiraz, with floral lift on the sweet nose alongside a twist of black pepper and dark cherry fruit. Ideally this needs a few more years’ rest in bottle, by which time it will be absolutely singing, but there’s still buckets of appeal right now, with its velvety tannins and liquorice-tinged fruit. International Trophy; Decanter World Wine Awards
