100% Adelaide Hills, 4 clones separately picked and wild-fermented, 20% whole bunch carbonic maceration, matured for 22 months in new and used French oak. Deep, vivid crimson-purple; the bouquet is attractive, but it is the length and balance of the intense, medium-bodied palate that sends the taste buds into overdrive with spice, pepper and sage underlying the majestic array of black cherry, blood plum and blackberry fruits; the tannins and oak balance is immaculate. A delicious, ambitious, cooler-climate Shiraz, with floral lift on the sweet nose alongside a twist of black pepper and dark cherry fruit. Ideally this needs a few more years’ rest in bottle, by which time it will be absolutely singing, but there’s still buckets of appeal right now, with its velvety tannins and liquorice-tinged fruit.
