Gold Medal ~ Yarra Valley Wine Show 2015
(95 Points) ~ Yarra Valley Wine Show 2015
The Barber Pinot Noir was sourced from premium vineyards in the Upper Yarra Valley. The 2014 season produced great ‘little’ wines, ‘little’ because there wasn’t much of it. Poor conditions during spring flowering meant crops were dramatically reduced in Chardonnay and Pinot Noir by up to 60%, later ripening varieties; Riesling, Shiraz and Cabernet fared better losing only 10-20%.
Bright red with a pale hue. The wine is perfumed showing sour cherries, earthy understones with lifted cinnamon and nutmeg spice. Classic carbonic maceration characters of juicy fruits and all spice burst onto the palate and are nicely matched with some whole bunch savouriness. The wine finishes clean with great acidity and length. A really approachable style that has all the right bits in place. Drink now till 2015 – 2020.
