SC Pannell Field Street Shiraz 2013
This Field Street Shiraz is our first single vineyard estate grown Shiraz, sourced from the 9 ha of vineyard that surrounds our new cellar door on Olivers Rd. The original Shiraz plantings are 1970 and the vineyard faces west to the gulf of St Vincent. So in every sense this wine is already at the heart of the S.C. Pannell label. 1500 cases of this wine have been made, and while it is ready now for immediate drinking, it also reward cellaring over the next ten years.
Stephen Pannell's shiraz steps back from major oak impacts but that doesn't take away the region's influence on the variety as a lovely, rich, chewy wine with a clear insight into dark fruits and textured density, here with plenty of well-toned body shaping, and background notes of mint and eucalypt. Lovely drinking without weight issues. Tony Love; National Editor; Taste
This estate vineyard, planted '70, was acquired by SC Pannell in '14; matured in French oak (20% new). Wow. This isn't the trendy SC Pannell with aspirations to make light to medium-bodied reds for connoisseurs of fine things, but a throwback to Steve Pannell's days with Hardys (there is an explanation, but no space). It is opulently rich, medium to full-bodied, with fruit and oak in unison, and the punters will just love it to death. And they won't look foolish. Rating: 95 Points; James Halliday Wine Companion
