Frankland River is one of the coolest wine-growing regions in Western Australia. It is situated far from population and industrial centres, has no major vine pests or diseases and offers a pristine, pollution-free grapegrowing environment. Onshore winds off the southern ocean and moderate summer temperatures provide optimum ripening conditions. Rocky Gully wines are made from traditional varieties with an individual approach to winemaking. Developed for the modern lifestyle, these are vibrant, fresh, food-friendly and easy-drinking wines.
Bright red fruits, with plum, black pepper and spice with subtle integration of oak. A middle weighted palate with bright juicy fruit and a lifted integration of black pepper, plum and spice notes. Creamy texture and subtle oak provides a poised finish. The tiny addition of viognier with vibrant shiraz fruit notes gives aromatic lift and subtle texture which makes the wine more approachable in its youth. Good acidity and fine tannins combine to create a soft finishing, well weighted cool climate style. Ideal food wine which will complement many dishes including pork, lamb and duck. Drink now for the next 5 to 7 years.
There is a small addition of viognier, but with no claim of co-fermentation. The power and intensity of Frankland River shiraz is on full display here, with an edgy quality to the black fruits, spice and licorice that give this wine tension and interest; fine-grained tannins add a savoury note to the finish.
