Sorby Adams Morticia Sparkling Shiraz Nv

Sorby Adams Morticia Sparkling Shiraz Nv

Shiraz 92%, Cabernet Sauvignon 8% from Eden Valley. Handcrafted to showcase the versatility of the Eden Valley region and the individual strengths of old vine Shiraz, "Morticia" was created by Simon Adams for his wife Helen, which thankfully he has decided to share. The Sorby Adams Home Vineyard sits high in the eastern hills of the Barossa.  First planted in 1932, it is home to some of the oldest vines in the Eden Valley region.  Its gnarled twisted vines produce elegant and refined wines in the classic cool climate style.

This plum coloured gem has a nose reminiscent of wild blackberries and black cherries with a hint of mocha from the oak maturation.  The palate delivers a seductive explosion of rich black berry fruits with a touch of sweetness balanced by fresh acidity and a long dry finish. This wine is made for drinking now, too good to keep, just enjoy!

There aren’t a lot of 100 per cent Eden Valley sparkling reds around. By the taste of this, there should be. Smooth and flavoursome, plummy and sweet, its highlights of violets and raspberry making for one very yummy drink. It’s mostly shiraz, with a small amount of cabernet; indeed, there is a dusty, herbal twang to it – a very positive thing, as it turns out, because it acts as a counterpoint to the wine’s general sweetness. Drying tannin. Sweet fruit. Really good for the money. Rated : 92 Points; Alcohol : 14%; Price : $22; Closure : Cork; Drink : 2009 - 2012 By Campbell Mattinson; The Wine Front

Adams made this wine for his wife Helen.  What a sycophant.  Still, it's a bloody fine non-vintage example with opulent fleshy ripe fruit displaying rich concentration.  Ideal for Christmas in July. Ray Jordan, Western Australian

A plush dense style with hints of rum and raisin. It's full of fruit and very juicy with a soft finish, making for a lovely, great-value wine. Ken Gargett, Gourmet Traveller Wine
