Brookland Valley Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon 2002

Good colour; fragrant blackcurrant, cassis, herb and black olive permeate both the bouquet and palate, which is long, intense and supple; lovely now, better still in another 5 years. 14º alc. Drink 2017 $62 Date Tasted Mar 08 Rating: 96 Points; James Halliday Wine Companion 2009

The 2002 Reserve Cabernet demonstrates the absolute commitment and focus of the viticultural and winemaking teams to achieve excellence. Grapes were harvested at optimal maturity, de-stemmed and put to small open fermenters. After daily plunging and an extended maceration, the ferment was pressed off to fine French oak to undergo malolactic. The wine was then racked several times and given a light egg white fine before final filtration and bottling. Alcohol 13.7%

Deep, concentrated red in colour, this wine displays blackcurrant, mulberry leaf and plum skin fruit aromas, whilst hints of black olive, mint and savoury oak lead into an enticing and complex bouquet. The varietal flavours envelop the palate with dark fruits and tobacco notes prevail. The impression of this wine is sustained and lengthy, with soft, fine tannin and acid balance. A wine of great texture and complexity that, although drinking superbly upon release, will develop remarkable complexity.
