The 2002 Annie’s Lane Copper Trail Cabernet Sauvignon is rich velvet red in the glass. Lifted aromas of tobacco, leather, violets and cassis develop into rich, earthy, cigar box characters balanced with intense berry flavours on the palate. Supported by elegant tannins and well-integrated oak, this wine has a long, lingering finish. Copper Trail Cabernet Sauvignon is made with a minimal intervention approach, retaining and enhancing the natural expression of the fruit. Small batch open fermenters were used to keep vineyard parcels separate, allowing the winemaker to maintain and develop the unique characteristics of each vineyard. Some parcels finished fermentation in oak while others were left to macerate on skins for up to 14 days after completion of fermentation. The wines were gently pressed into a combination of new and one-year old French oak barrels to mature for 24 months. Deep colour; clean, powerful blackcurrant and earth varietal fruit; lingering tannins. Screwcap. Rating: 92 points; Drink: to 2022.
