Glen Eldon Dry Bore Shiraz 2005

Sold OutGlen Eldon Dry Bore Shiraz 2005

If you had twenty five bucks and had to show a foreigner what Australian wine was about, it would be hard to go past this. For starters, it's a Shiraz and the Australian style is inimitable. Specifically, it is from the Barossa, the birth place of 'our' style. If you could be fussy, you would go straight for the 2005 vintage. The Glen Eldon Dry Bore Barossa Shiraz 2005 opens up with dark berry and vanillin oak aromas. It is at the bigger spectrum so far as the flavour profile goes but manages to hold a great deal of elegance through a generous, mouth filling palate of luscious dark fruits. The finish is long and befitting a premium Barossa Shiraz. An Excellent wine. The great catch here is the price. At $25 it is bargain city - at $19.99 a steal. Don't take my word for it; the reviews are both plentiful and consistent in the high praise. Drink: Now-2015; Quality: Excellent; BW; WineStar© December 2008

Deep crimson; voluminous berry aromas lead into a sumptuous palate with blackberry and blood plum to the fore; the tannins are ripe and fine, the oak well integrated. Screwcap. 14.5% alc. Rating 95 points Drink 2020 $25 Date Tasted Jul 08 James Halliday Wine Companion

The 2005 Shiraz 'Dry Bore' was aged for 18 months in new and used French and American oak. The wine is a saturated purple color offering up an alluring bouquet of violets, saddle leather, blackberry, and blueberry muffin. This leads to a stylish, racy Shiraz with a sense of elegance. Nicely balanced, it has generous ripe fruit, a smooth texture, good focus, and a long finish. Give it 2-3 years to fill out and drink it through 2020. 91 Points; Jay Miller in Robert Parker's; The Wine Advocate

There’s plenty of oak here, fed into concentrated mixed berry fruits… I like the palate shape; plenty of sweet fruit flavour, good potential in the riper end of the spectrum. 91 Points – Nick Stock, WBM 100 August 2008.

Despite the drought inspired name, this is a lovely, succulent, super-ripe shiraz with a savoury and quite complex bouquet, a smooth fruit-sweet palate and a fair quota of toastiness from the lusty use of barrels.  It’s on the oaky side but very likeable. 90 Points & Top 100 New Releases – Huon Hooke, Gourmet Traveller Wine Magazine December 2008

The Barossa has been producing rich full- bodied Shiraz wines for over a century. Our Dry Bore Shiraz continues this tradition. Located in the heart of the Barossa, vineyard continues to impress us with producing small yet concentrated bunches of premium Shiraz. The fruit was hand picked, destemmed, split and fell into traditional open fermenters. The wine has been matured in American and French hogsheads, resulting in exceptional structure and balance; the 2005 Dry Bore offers elegance, power and finesse. Glen Eldon
