    Castle Rock Estate Riesling 2008

    Castle Rock Estate Riesling 2008

Family member and winemaker Rob Diletti has gained skill and experience as the estate vineyard has aged; it’s a potent combination. Still gloriously youthful, citrus and mineral interwoven, edging slowly but surely to the day five years out when it will start to display everything it has to offer; it will be magnificent. From Porongurup; Drink to 2023 with tuna sashimi; 96 points, $21, Screwcap, 12.5% alc; Halliday’s Top 100 Wines for 2009 – The Weekend Australian November 14-15, 2009

Castle Rock produces fine, ageworthy rieslings from its vineyard in the Porongurups in Western Australia's south. The 2008 has subtle lemon and lime aromas with floral and slatey touches. It's a shy, restrained type, but there's good depth in that long, appetising, dry palate. Past experience suggests it will build richness and complexity in the bottle. !2.5% alc. * * * * * 5 Stars; Ralph Kyte-Powell, Epicure Uncorked

This wine is beautiful to behold with its bright, shiny almost watery colour. Then in the mouth are pristine lime and stony fruit that finishes with mouth-watering acidity giving it ten years aging potential in the cellar. Angus Hughson, Courier Mail

Lifted grapefruit & lemon on the nose with some floral Gardenia perfumes. The palate is pretty, light & stony with soft, natural acidity & a real delicacy. Clean, pure and delicious. Drinkable immediately or hold & expect it to turn it like below (2004 vintage). Stunning value. 18.5 points Drink Now to 2025; Andrew Graham; Australian Wine Review

Gold Medal - 2008 Qantas Wine Show (WA)

Pale straw with green hues. A tight, citrus dominated, nose, showing lime and lemons characters. Some light floral notes, orange blossom and a minerally edge adds interest. The palate is Riesling in its purest form, tight and elegant and dominated by citrus fruit characters. The natural acidity is powerful yet wonderfully balanced and gives the wine a mineral structure and great length. The wine is tight and restrained with an attractive delicacy now, yet will blossom with age for ten years. Excellent ageing potential. It will continue to improve through its first year and then plateau, should drink well for 10 or more years.
