Yalumba Y Series Sangiovese Rosé 2008 (Per Dozen)

Sold OutYalumba Y Series Sangiovese Rosé 2008 (Per Dozen)

Gold Medal & Best Rose at the 2008 Royal Melbourne Wine Show

Everything Yalumba seems to touch tastes marvellous, especially the Y Series. This is a leap up on the 2007 and back to the quality of the 2006; it has ripe sweet redcurrant and red cherry flavours, a plumpness in the mid-palate, and a pleasant dryish finish that lingers. Bloody Good. Peter Forrestal, Quaff 2009 (Aus), October 2008

A decent rose is the ultimate "glug-able" wine - the latest Y Series especially so. Its colour is relatively deep with a salmon-pink hue; its aromas are savoury rather than sweet - an acknowledgment of its sangiovese heritage. Lush notes of loganberry, raspberry and warm spices morph seamlessly to an equally savoury palate. These abundant flavours are checked by the gentle squeeze of tannin, which keeps the finish dry. It's clear to see why it won Best Rose at the 2008 Royal Melbourne Wine Show. Panel of Judges, Gourmet Traveller WINE (Aus), February/March 2009

Yalumba's Y Series represent some of Australia's best value for money wines, no doubt. This, too, is cracking value. The savoury characteristics of sangiovese give this a dry, crisp finish - just what you want from rose. At the same time it's full of vibrancy, with cherry and redcurrant flavours dominant. Rick Allen, The Manly Daily (Aus), 20 March 2009

I gave the 2007 a 'Bloody Good' rating in Quaff 2009 and I am pleased to say that the following vintage is just as good. So it doesn't matter which year you see at your local wine merchant's, they are both terrific budget-priced rose's. Sangiovese seems to me an ideal grape for the rose style because it has natural savoury characters and so tends to taste drier, especially when the winemaker doesn't leave too much residual sugar. Ideal summr drink. Peter Forrestal, My Money Magazine (Aus), February 2009

Yalumba's Y Series is fantastic value for money. The wines are well-made and very well priced. This sangiovese rose shows plenty of varietal cherry and red-fruit flavour with a hint of softness and a fairly dry finish. It is dangerously quaffable so it's probably just the thing for after-work unwinding on a hot summer's evening. Fergus McGhie, The Canberra Times - Food and Wine (Aus), 18 February 2009

A tidy inexpensive rosé made from sangiovese that packs plenty of flavour and bright clean fruit, this is terrific value. Yalumba has drawn on two Barossa Valley parcels of sangiovese (although it's carrying the broader South Australian region label), one from richer soils and one from sandy soils and given both a quick soak to pick up a bright red hue - the colour's a real feature. Ripe red cherry fruits slightly creamy almost, really fresh and vibrant. The palate's bursting with ripe cherry and red berry flavours, lifted musky raspberry too, balanced and a delicious red candy finish. Nick Stock, Adelaide Review (Aus), February 2009

Wine writers have been advocating the rosé as the perfect quaffing wine for our climate for years, with little success. It's hearting to see that at least the winemakers are listening and crafting fantastic, dry, substantial rosés without any hints of 'lolly water'. Yalumba's Sangiovese Rosé 2008 is one such wine: dry, moreish and wonderful. It displays red-berry aromas, which are confirmed on the palate with lots of cinnamon and some brown cardamom. It has a mouth-filling texture and a long, savoury finish. Try it, it's worth every sip! Franz Scheurer, Australian Gourmet Pages (Aus), October 2008
