‘Full-on’ exotic Gruner flavours, a wine not for the feint-hearted. Belies its 15% alcohol but is an essay in concentration – with grapefruit, pepper and dense minerality in abundance…
2006 in the Wachau was a year of extremes: after very long winter-period with lots of snow, flowering started very late; followed by an extremely hot period in July and then a cold and rainy August. Then September brought the warmest autumn for decades, the warm weather continuing right through till the end of harvest mid of November.
All of which translated to perfect balance between ripeness, juicy fruitiness and high acidity: In Franz Xavier Pichler’s 50th harvest, he picked his best grapes ever, including a monumental Trockenbeerenauslese from the Kellerberg vineyard.
