There is a good reason why Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc has conquered the world. But it doesn’t mean you can’t things a bit differently – using complexity and character to add interest and stand out from the crowd. The 2013 Kindred Spirits Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc uses extended lees maturation to create a refined expression of the classic style, highlighting fruit purity and elegant minerality.
The Kindred Spirits Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc is sourced from lower-yielding vineyards on the hillside slopes for greater intensity and whole bunch pressed. Fermentation is in stainless steel tanks with minimal oxygen interaction to maximise fruit expression. Following fermentation the wine is aged in tank on lees for four months with malolactic fermentation avoided.
2013 was an almost textbook vintage. Moderate and consistent conditions prevailed throughout almost the entire season with conducive conditions through flowering and regular rainfall. Temperatures were not excessive but sufficient to gain ripeness in this cool climate region. An excellent year to make all varieties but especially Sauvignon Blanc.
Pale in colour with striking green highlights. The nose is fresh and delicate with restrained aromas of gooseberry and freshly grown grass given complexity by river-stone and white apple notes. The palate is arresting in its purity and intensity with lime, citrus and passionfruit flavours wrapped in slateymineraility and carried by a fine acid backbone.
