Barrel fermented entirely in French oak using natural yeasts, a full bodied white with potent honeysuckle, apricot, ginger and ripe pear aromas. It shows the classic silky Viognier texture while retaining an authoritative, balanced structure and refreshing acidity. A high impact wine without being over the top. It certainly has the Viognier wow factor. A complex, musky, spicy and perfumed viognier whose sumptuous, fruit-driven palate culminates in a finely shaped finish of exceptional persistence and smoothness. Scented with lemon blossom and apricot, it’s creamy and nutty, with undertones of melon and acacia. Very elegant and seamless, with a persistent core of fruit and a refreshing, but soft acidity. (Canberra, $75 retail, approx., 94, drink 2008-2011) Jeremy Oliver Clonakilla Canberra District Viognier 2006 ($45) screwcap: Fresh, bountiful, fragrant wine with active, pippy fruit leaping from the glass. An explosion of scent and flavour, yet it puckers on the finish and stays controlled in its riot. Lots of warm, floral, nutty, kernel-like length. Another excellent release. Drink: 2007-2009. 91 points. Campbell Mattinson, The Wine Front It is only on the back-palate and finish that the wine, and its varietal origin, really starts to talk clearly: apricot, musk and a velvety texture, all enhanced by good acidity. Screwcap 14.5° alc. Rating: 90; James Halliday Wine Companion Very complex, soft and layered, with a wonderful texture. Chris Shanahan, The Canberra Times, June 20, 2007
