    Cookoothama Cabernet Merlot 2006

    Cookoothama Cabernet Merlot 2006

The Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot for this wine is sourced from our Cookoothama Vineyard on the banks of the Murrumbidgee River at Darlington Point in the Riverina. The fruit was harvested in the cool of night and delivered in small batches to the winery. The grapes were crushed, yeasted and pumped over in traditional style to avoid the extraction of bitter tannins. The wine was then transferred to a combination of new and one and two year old French and American oak for 14 months maturation prior to final blending and bottling.

Deep crimson with a youthful purple hue. Lovely plum aromas infused with hints of spice, herbs and dark chocolate. A very stylish, well structured wine with an intense and concentrated palate of blackcurrant and mint with rich silky tannins and well integrated oak.

Good colour, with a dark savoury nose complemented by well-handled oak; bright, juicy, complexed by a chewy finish. Great value. Screwcap. 14% alc. Rating 92 points Drink 2013 $14.95 Date Tasted Aug 08 James Halliday Wine Companion

My wordy wordy Lordy Lordy..Minty fondant notes over blackcurrant and raspberry fruit with a little earthiness but the overall impression is one of a clean, fresh and vibrant wine. Medium bodied and fresh fruited with a touch of vanilla, very attractive toothsome tannins and impeccable balance and line for a wine at this price point. It’s not too heavy, oaky or sweet and drinks beautifully from start to finish. Good news all round I think - I’m even thinking of rating it a little higher it’s that good.
