Delatite are best known for their aromatic whites, which have claimed a litany of trophies and medals over the years, as well as receiving great reviews around the world. The first vines were planted in 1968 on a picturesque rise overlooking the vineyards toward Mt Buller. It became quickly known that the Delatite site was something quite special, as all of the wines, Riesling in particular, are a true expression of vineyard and mesoclime
Priority is given to preserving the vital expressions of the vineyard. Fruit is hand harvested and hand pruned, which permits the older vines, some as old as forty years, the best possible chance to express themselves. The grapes are handled whilst cool, kept judiciously chilled and held on skins for a few hours in the press. Cold settled and racked, the natural wild yeasts from the vineyard are used in preference to cultured packaged yeast. Ferments begin within two weeks of harvest and will normally run for around three weeks at between 10°C and 15°C before completion. All components are then treated to an extended period sitting on gross lees before being cleaned up ready for bottling. Alcohol 13.0%
Light straw colour. Shows strong grapefruit and lime aromas, combined with regional florals. Delatite offers great length of flavour, a mineral finish and a lovely crisp natural acidity.
