Annie Wayman was a legend in the Clare Valley. She could always be relied upon to bring along sandwiches and a warm drink to harvesters and pruners at the turn of the century. One evening Annie’s horse and cart became bogged in a lane adjacent to one of the valley’s best vineyards. Thus, Annie’s Lane was named. The Annie’s Lane Chardonnay is pale straw in colour with green hues. Aromas of peaches, nectarines and melon fruits are present on the nose. These scents develop into lively varietal fruit flavours with complex oak characters on a creamy, refined palate. The fruit for the 2006 Annie’s Lane Chardonnay was sourced entirely from the Clare Valley. The vintage was moderate, producing fruit with crisp varietal flavours and good acid levels. After crushing and pressing, partial barrel and malolatic fermentation was followed by extended contact with the lees to add complexity and length of flavour. Enjoy with roast chicken with lemon and thyme stuffing or creamy smoked salmon and dill fettuccini. This wine can be enjoyed now but would benefit from up to three years bottle age.
