Cape Mentelle Georgiana 2007

This years Georgiana returns to her roots in being predominantly a blend of Margaret River sauvignon blanc and semillon. Ripe fruit flavours appeared at significantly lower sugar levels than are usually seen, leading to a crisp aromatic style with an even more delicate palate than usual. The philosophy behind the Georgiana is one of freshness and vibrancy with our methods tailored to maximising the fruit flavours characteristic of our Margaret River vineyards. Fruit is machine harvested at night to take advantage of the cooler night-time temperatures. The juice is gently expressed from the skins with a light pressing. The clear juice is racked off gross lees and fermented to dryness in stainless steel tanks. All batches are then fined and filtered before blending those suitable for inclusion in Georgiana. Bottling took place in August 2007. 37% sauvignon blanc, 31% semillon, 29% chardonnay, 3% viognier.

This is a very decent quality quaffing white blend. Vibrant and fresh, it delivers herbaceousness, being also citrine in character with lovely ripe lemons and has an upfront zestyness that nicely balances the fruit and acidity quite well. Finishes with a crispness that augurs for marriage with spaghetti carbonara and a long and happy future. Drink now. Very Good. Paul Ippolito Talks Wine

Cape Mentelle ‘Georgiana’ 2007: Fergus McGhie writing in The Canberra Times 26th September said the mixture of grapes (Chenin Blanc, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon) could lead people to think it was made from the leftovers. He gave it a good review saying the sum is better then its parts. And I agree -  whoever put this together did so with skill; it says medium bodied on the label and it is a good textural wine no great depth or length but well worth the money.

Top 50 wines under $20; Yet another expressive vintage of an immensely popular Margaret River blend. A dashing, almost exuberant young wine for instant gratification. Paddy Kendlar, Herald Sun, 20 November 2007

This wine offers good concentration and lifted tropical fruit notes. There is the usual green salad, herb-like flavours and an abundance of tropical fruits, while the palate offers power and depth, crisp acidity and tangy fruit to the finish. Scoop Magazine, WA. Best white wine under $20 - 18.5/20

The Cape Mentelle Georgiana 2007, with its fresh aromas and lively balanced palate…is an excellent-value current drinking wine. Ray Jordan, West Australian 29 November 2007

The sum is definitely greater than its parts. It’s a beautiful fresh wine with plenty of crisp acidity and a light to medium bodied palate. Tropical fruits abound with plenty of sauvignon blanc’s passionfruit and chenin’s guava flavour. 4 star quality, 4 star value; Fergus McGhie, The Canberra Times, 26 September 2007
