Jacobs Creek Johann Shiraz Cabernet 2005

Johann is the true iconic wine of the Jacob’s Creek super premium collection. This wonderful blend of Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon makes this wine the ultimate in quality. It is our flagship wine and is named after Johann Gramp, the pioneer of Orlando Wines. Johann is produced from the highest quality Shiraz and Cabernet vineyards in South Australia, using only the grapes that display powerful and well structured flavours. Johann is a classic Australian wine, being a marriage of the rich round fruit flavours of Shiraz with the classic tannin structure and length of Cabernet Sauvignon, producing a wine in perfect harmony and balance. Rich and complex, showing a harmonious blend of ripe blackberry and plum with liquorice characters from Shiraz, and refined cassis fruits from Cabernet Sauvignon, supported by cedary vanilla oak. The palate is intense, with layers of concentrated stylish fruit seamlessly integrated with the finest oak; full bodied in structure with ripe yet fine soft tannins, carrying the fruit to a long, rounded finish. To date, the 2005 has won 3 Trophies and 9 Golds including taking out the prestigious Great Australian Red 2010

Topical wine then. Choc-licorice, dark cherry, vanilla, mint and toasty oak. Picture thick purple sheets of satin tannin rippling in the breeze, billowing smooth and long. Sexy, a little obvious and tawdry, but so damn enjoyable. The synergy of Cabernet and Shiraz on full display. Full bodied but balanced and harmonious. Loved drinking it.
