100% Riesling. The Trimbach family has been making wines in the French province of Alsace since 1626-- a remarkable succession from father to son based on an unchanging devotion to the wines of their beautiful corner of France. Run by the 12th generation of the Trimbach family, Pierre makes the wine and his younger brother Jean sells it. Pierre Trimbach's wine making is impeccable and results in firm, masculine, bone dry and richly fruity wines of enormous breeding -- for some a yardstick by which to judge all others in the region. The top selling brand of Alsace wine in the United States.
Rated by many judges as the greatest Alsace Riesling of all, Clos Sainte Hune comes from an exceptional 1.3 hectare plot near Hunawihr. Of great longevity and very rare (production rarely exceeds 7000 bottles), Clos Sainte Hune takes at least seven years to reach its peak. The wine is vinified to complete dryness leaving no residual sugar. Fermented in stainless steel vats with no oak aging. To insure that the maximum flavor of the grape comes through, there is no malolactic fermentation. Bottling is early to preserve freshness. This classic wine is dry yet succulent, and attains phenomenal complexity with age. Clos Sainte Hune develops an extraordinary aftertaste of minerals after a few years in the bottle. It is prized by connoisseurs.
Rich and inviting, with complex smoke, apple, peach, lemon and mineral flavors. Has great intensity on the palate and a smooth texture that melds with the vibrant structure. The finish is long and detailed. To be released fall 2006. Drink now through 2010. 94/100; Wine Spectator
