Cleanskin: McLaren Vale Super Premium Shiraz 2006 (per dozen)

Cleanskin: McLaren Vale Super Premium Shiraz 2006 (per dozen)

I had to read the deal twice when this was offered to us and to maintain the symmetry, I also had to taste the wine twice when we received it. One whiff and you will know this isn’t your clearance warehouse cleanskin. It has lashings of beautiful dark fruits, aniseed and McLaren chocolate. One taste and any last remaining shreds of doubt go out the window. The quality fruit aromas are a great pointer to the ripe but dark fruited palate with a hint of Christmas cake spice and expertly played oak. To add to the absurdity of value here, I reckon it has a good 10 years in it. It's an Excellent wine. Now – 2019; Quality: Excellent BW; WineStar© September 2009

A powerhouse wine; incredible concentration and depth, with toasty oak, chocolate, and essency blackberry fruit; mocha comes through on the palate, and the wine represents the essence of the region; dark, dense chewy and generous, with light acidity freshening the finish. Cork. 14.2% alc. Rating 95 Drink 2025 $54 Date Tasted Mar 09 James Halliday; Australian Wine Companion

A wonderfully sumptuous and traditional shiraz whose profound depth of sour-edged plum and blackberry flavour simply exudes McLaren Vale regionality. Backed by meaty, leathery nuances, dark olives and dark chocolates, it's powerful, firm and loose-knit, with its plush, concentrated fruit underpinned by coarse linen tannins. It finishes with excellent length and weight of dark plums and cassis, with lingering nuances of cedar, prune and bitumen.(18.5/94, YTD 2014-2018+) Jeremy Oliver
